Outward Bound Day 1

Day 1 – Monday

We arrived at the Outward Bound Centre in Aberdovey  at exactly 1 pm to be greeted by the unfamiliar site of both sunshine and warmth and  after a hot coach journey, the jog and dip suddenly seemed more appealing.

Having met our instructors, the children were allocated their groups and then had to take on one of the toughest challenges facing any brave young adventurer: making their bed from scratch. There were a range of techniques (some more successful than others) but eventually the difference between a duvet cover and sheet was established and we were ready for our first activities.

After some short problem solving activities, the groups took turns to head down to the estuary for the traditional early bath. En route one group tasted some of the local delicacies in the form of wood sorrel and ants (which apparently tasted of lemon).

The evening meal was superb and offered options to suit every taste. The groups then headed off for some onsite activities which included organising kit for tomorrow’s rock climbing expedition and a high rope challenge.

The evening ended with hot chocolate and the awarding of the adventurer of the day before heading back to rooms.

The children are all tucked up in bed and everything is remarkably quiet. All groups are heading off site tomorrow for climbing activities and even a potential visit to the ice cream shop.
