During their year in Kindergarten, the children will be provided with opportunities to learn in a play-based environment, with many activities linked to their themes, which may include ‘Staying Healthy’, ‘Colours’ and ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’.
The children cook on a weekly basis and these lessons are usually linked to the maths topics. The children further develop their understanding of phonics through stories and actions.
They are taught Art and Design and Music by specialist teachers and have three PE lessons in the school hall with their class teachers. During the Spring Term, fathers are invited to attend Kindergarten for a session. This is always very exciting for both the fathers and the children!
At this stage the children also begin to attend whole school assemblies on a regular basis, just one of the ways that they prepare for life in Reception.
